Knowledge and Responsibility

For Today and Tomorrow.

Harrisville-Wells Memorial School is known for its cooperative and respectful learning environment.  This is created and maintained through the collaboration of staff, families and students.  Throughout the year, it is our hope that all school community members will continue to encourage our children to become active learners as we provide expanded opportunities for students to grow and learn.

Winter Dress Code

The season is changing and so are the temperatures. Often, our temperatures vary greatly from morning recess to afternoon recess. It is important that all students come to school with their own hats and gloves/mittens during this time- even if it is going to warm up over the course of the day. If it is warm enough, the students may remove their hats and gloves, but we do ask that all students bring his or her own, just in case. Please note that HWMS no longer loans hats.

During the cooler season, we have criteria for student dress while outside during recess or a classroom project. It is based on temperatures and our interest in student safety and health in brisker weather. Here are the criteria:

Temperature in the 50’s--long sleeves and long pants are required outside.

Temperature in the 40’s--two layers are needed (i.e. a shirt AND sweatshirt or jacket).

Temperatures that are 32 degrees and colder-- a jacket, hat and gloves/mittens are needed. When temperatures are between 32 and 40, we recommend, but do not require, that hats be worn.
